Avesta Group worked on the rehabilitation of a former tidal power station in La Rance, France.
The Tidal Power Station, inaugurated in 1966 by General de Gaulle, held the title of the world’s largest tidal power station by installed capacity. Situated at the estuary of La Rance River in France, it generates energy at a lower cost compared to nuclear power. The plant produces clean and sustainable energy with minimal impact on the ecosystem and species in the estuary. Operated by Électricité de France (EDF), it manages weekly tasks and monitors its environmental effects.
The tidal power station contributes around 45% of the energy in the region of Bretagne. Since its reopening, the facility attracts over 100,000 visitors annually. Visitors can explore the station through a 300 sqm exhibition space, offering a nearly authentic experience with videos, models, and a panoramic view of the engine room.
