Udarnik, once a Soviet cinema, stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of Boris Iofan, a renowned Soviet architect, within the House on the Embankment residential complex. This iconic structure is celebrated as a jewel of constructivist design.
Avesta Group took on the challenge of revitalizing this historic site, envisioning its transformation into a Contemporary Art Museum dedicated to Russian art from the 1960s to the present day. Collaborating closely with the Shalva Breus Foundation, we developed a robust concept that served as the foundation for the project’s masterplan. After conducting a thorough analysis of the operational and financial aspects of the future museum, Avesta Group formulated an ambitious design brief aimed at reimagining Udarnik’s purpose. Subsequently, our team orchestrated and oversaw an architectural competition, extending invitations to more than 50 Russian and international architectural firms.
