The Jacqueline and Pablo Picasso Museum in Aix-en-Provence is set to become the third major museum in France dedicated to Picasso, after Paris and Antibes, and the city’s third landmark cultural institution. Located at the Collège des Prêcheurs in the heart of the town, the 5,500 sqm facility will spread across three levels, bringing together more than 2,000 exposed works within an exceptional exhibition space, alongside an auditorium, a documentation centre, workshops, a cafeteria, a restaurant, and a secure storage area. With a budget of 58 million euros, the project represents a significant investment in Aix-en-Provence’s cultural standing and a lasting tribute to the legacy of this remarkable artist.
Avesta Group was engaged by Madame Catherine Hutin-Blaye from 2015 to 2018, providing services across concept development, masterplanning, institutional planning, and operational and financial planning. The team addressed the full scope of the museum’s cultural programme, exhibition strategy, and facility planning, working within the constraints of a historic convent that served as a secondary school for over a century. Avesta Group also developed the business planning framework to ensure the long-term sustainability of the institution.
