Avesta Group engaged in a project to position Reggio Calabria as a Mediterranean cultural capital with two waterfront buildings. Situated on a narrow sea strait between Italy and Sicily, the location offers visibility from both regions, hosting a Museum of Mediterranean History and a multifunctional arts structure.
Designed by Zaha Hadid, the museum’s starfish-inspired form fosters communication and circulation. It accommodates exhibition spaces, restoration facilities, an archive, an aquarium, and a library. The Multifunctional Building, with three elements surrounding a covered piazza, serves as administrative offices, a gym, craft labs, shops, a cinema, and three auditoriums.
