In 2001, Avesta Group skills were implemented when the Granvelle Palace was restored and used to host the Musée du Temps.


A Palace to House an Original Collection

Emblematic monument of the Renaissance in Franche-Comté, the Granvelle palace was restored between 1988 and 2002 to host the Musée du Temps (Museum of Time), a Besançon history, sciences and watchmaking museum.


A Museum Dedicated to Time and its Measurement

The Musée du Temps invites the inquisitive visitor to discover the obsessional quest of measurement by the masters of Time. Besançon was known as the capital of watchmaking, and here it is the capital of Time. From astronomical clocks to the echo of frequency, from the piezoelectricity of quartz to the atomic clocks, from the infinitely big to the infinitely small of micro-technologies, everything here is excessive.
Its collections comprise both the watches fund established by the Museum of Fine Arts and the collections of the City History Museum. They bring together 1,500 watches, drafts and boxes, over a hundred of grandfather clocks, pendulums, an original set of 2,000 engravings related to watches from the 16th to the 19th century together with many tools, machinery, past and present scientific material collected from European high-tech laboratories: quartz resonators and oscillators, micromanipulators and robots...
