In 1995 and 1996, Avesta Group implemented its skills as a cultural planner and project manager to create a cultural centre dedicated to Medieval times and Charles VII’s history.
Remnants of more than a dozen archaeological structures have been found where what became in the 14th and 15th centuries a vacation resort’s castle for the French nobility. Stunning stone and glass works among its towers made it one of the major art centres of its kind, already gathering a notable collection. Suffering from a blaze in the 16th century and from destructions during the French Revolution, the castle has been entirely renovated at the end of the 19th century to host a museum.
Through the course, the visitors relive the everyday life during the medieval times in such a powerful and artistic centre. Walking in the paths of Charles VII and his lover Agnès Sorel, of Jacques Coeur and his treasures, of Joan of Arc, they discover the heritage of the fortified castle, topped by enlightened gothic realisations. Every room presents a specific theme along with old texts, sculptures, potteries, floor tiles… Various and rich trunks testify the peregrination of the former hosts. At the end of the visit, on the top of the 40-meters high tower, the castle offers a view of the surrounding lands including the Bourges Cathedral.
